Review: Planters Triple Nut Big Nut Bar

Mr. Peanut has quite a track record on this blog.  I've had a couple of his bars and have liked all of them.  While this Triple Nut Big Nut bar technically is not a "health" bar, but instead a snack bar, it doesn't truly fit the mission of the blog (at least health wise), so I'll classify this one as comfort food in that it's a high sugar and unhealthy treat.  Although, nuts in moderation are healthy, so it's somewhere in between ice cream and a Planters Antioxidant bar that I've reviewed before.  Anyway, I was on the road for a convention in San Jose (thus the different look in the pictures), so I picked this one up at the Marriott gift shop at my hotel, so the $1.49 price is probably not relevant to the outside world, although I was presently surprised that it was that low.  The remainder of the statistics on the bar include 1.62 ounces, 220 calories and seven grams of protein.

As you can see from the packaging, this is classified as a "chewy" nut bar and has a somewhat brittle texture as it is not supposed to be a truly crunchy bar.  The bar is made up of honey roasted peanuts, almonds and cashews and depending on the day, those could be my top three favorite nuts.  Pecans are the only one missing and I usually alternate peanuts with those as my third favorite nut, again, depending on the day.  The rest of the bar is held together with peanut butter and oats and that peanut butter gives this bar a sticky exterior texture.

When you bite into this, you really don't get anything truly shocking.  It is softer than you'd expect, thus the "chewy" part of the packaging, but it still provides a requisite crunch from the three included nuts.  What was disappointing, although not all that much, was the fact that the only real flavor in the bar was peanut butter as it overpowered the rest of the nut flavoring.  It seems they were only there for crunch, because the heartiness of the peanut butter took over the rest of the bar.  I didn't detect any honey from the honey roasted peanut part either and a very slight hint of sweetness of honey would have been an excellent compliment to the hearty peanut butter.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Despite the fact that this was basically just a peanut butter bar with flavorless nut pieces, I have to give this a BUY IT rating.  I think that mainly has to do with my obsession with nuts (hold your jokes) and the fact that I truly love crunchy foods and this bar was that.  It wasn't a super outstanding flavor and if you don't really like peanut butter, you probably aren't going to be a fan of this bar.  If you do like peanut butter and/or like foods with a lot of crunch, this one is right up your alley.

BUY IT!!

  1. Hmm you always expect planters bars to be full of peanut flavor since they basically dominate the peanut industry. That is disappointing
