Review: Zone Perfect Cinnamon Roll Nutrition Bar

Being that today is National Cinnamon Roll Day, there is no more fitting time for a cinnamon roll review.  This is the third cinnamon bun/roll product that I've reviewed, so I think it is pretty safe to assume that I like cinnamon rolls a lot.  They are just about the most unhealthy thing in the world, but when done right like at Granite City Food & Brewery, they can be AWESOME.  So, anytime someone tries to simulate this in ice cream or bar form, I'm very much interested and that leads me to the Zone Perfect Cinnamon Roll Nutrition Bar.  I picked this one up for $1.25 at Marsh and it is 1.76 ounces with 210 calories and fifteen grams of protein.  This bar is part of Zone Perfect's all natural Classic line of bars.

As you can see, there's not a whole lot of complexity to this bar.  It is a rice crisp interior mixed with cinnamon that is all covered with a thin layer of vanilla yogurt outer icing.  There are no add-in pieces or anything like that.  It's cinnamon, rice crisp and vanilla yogurt.  Well, I guess there are some other unpronounceable ingredients in there too, but those are worth me putting my scientist hat on to describe.

When you bite into this, the first thing you are going to notice is the rice crisp and how crunchy it is.  Being that the bar is primarily made up of rice crisp, that shouldn't be all that shocking.  After the crunch, you'll then get hit with a nice, balanced shot of cinnamon, which obviously is simulating the cinnamon part of the roll.  After the semi-heat of the cinnamon rolls on your tongue for a bit, you are then cooled off by the vanilla yogurt icing which also obviously serves as the icing part of a cinnamon roll.  The only thing that really has no correlation to a cinnamon roll in this bar is the crunch of the rice crisp since cinnamon rolls them self, when done right, are usually very soft and very doughy.  So, in reality, you are getting a bar that is pretty much a Rice Krispie treat that is flavored like a cinnamon roll and that is not a bad thing at all.  In fact, it is a good thing and a nice change of pace.

Buy It or Fly By It?  BUY IT.  This bar is not going to re-define your life in any way, but if you want something that approximates a cinnamon roll in bar form, you really can't go too wrong with this one.  Plus, if you are a Rice Krispie treat lover, you can have this as well and get a different flavor profile on the traditional treat.

BUY IT!!
