Review: Kellogg's Special K Chocolate Peanut Protein Snack Bar

I've covered in Kellogg's Special K reviews before how I think it is exceptionally amusing that they have entered the protein bar market.  When I hear the name Kellogg's or Special K, I immediately think breakfast foods and not protein bars.  Regardless, I've found the the majority of their Protein Meal Bars to be not bad.  That said, it was time to try out one of their Protein Snack Bars in this Chocolate Peanut bar.  This bar contains 110 calories and four grams of protein.  I picked it up on sale at Marsh for $3.00 for a box of six.

After I unwrapped this (prior to breaking it in half), I was amazed at how much this looked like a single Twix candy bar in both size and appearance.  It had a long tubular form covered in chocolate.  Once I broke it in half and the chocolate oddly crumbled, I saw an interior made of a peanut butter/protein filling.  I can't say any of this was remotely shocking based on the description of the product.

So, being that this was difficult for me to break in half, I was expecting a bar that was hard to chew like most protein bars and fortunately, I did not get that.  This bar was actually fairly easy to chew and I welcomed that.  In terms of taste, well, it was chocolate and peanut butter.  The sweet and heart peanut butter overpowered the chocolate and was actually the primary flavor in this bar.  The chocolate still added a sweet and thick accent to the strong peanut butter flavor though.  Funny thing is, the more I bit into this and chewed it (it didn't take long since it was such a small bar), I started to think that it compared to another type of candy that I've had plenty of in my life...a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.  In fact, I would almost go so far as to say that this tasted exactly like that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  As I finally came to the conclusion that this was just like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, it left me wanting more and therefore I have to give it a BUY IT rating.  The chocolate and peanut butter combination is wonderful and Kellogg's Special K has again exceeded my expectations.  Bravo!  Now, they just need to work on making this a little bigger, although I guess it wouldn't be a snack after that!

BUY IT!!
