Review: Good Greens Plus Chocolate Coconut Bar

As I said in my first Good Greens review, Good Greens was a bar that I had never heard of until they contacted me and asked if I would review some of their bars.  As part of that, they sent me four sample flavors to try out and that leads me to another one of those samples with this Chocolate Coconut bar.  As with all Good Greens bars, the bar is built on the foundation of their proprietary Z52 Superfood Powder and then constructed from there.  Before I dive into the review, the details on this one are 1.76 ounces, 185 calories, ten grams of protein, all natural, raw, gluten free and also vegan.  So, there's a lot going on with this bar.

When I broke this one in half for the photo above, I was amazed at how much it looked like the Chocolate Peanut Butter bar that I reviewed previously.  It had a soft, chocolate brownie-like interior that was enrobed in a dark chocolate coating.  The interior contained the standard rice crisp bits for crunch, but one thing different about this bar was that it had several coconut bits in it as well.  Outside of those things, there's not a lot of "fancy" characteristics about the bar so they are clearly going for the "it's what inside that counts" avenue with this bar as opposed to the looks department.

Biting into the bar, it was much like its physical composition, as it was quite soft and chewy.  The rice crisps and coconut bits added a nice little crunch to the bar and the interior really did taste like a chocolate brownie.  The outside dark chocolate was thick and creamy, but was mainly flat as dark chocolate tends to be, so it was really just there as another component of the bar and not really the star of the bar.  The star of the bar, on the other hand, was clearly the coconut flavor coming from the small coconut bits. While I did taste some chocolate as I made my way through this, the overwhelming flavor here was definitely coconut.  One year ago, I may not have been able to tolerate that, but I'm teaching myself to like coconut and because of this, I found it appealing.  Well, I should say that I found it odd, but appealing at the same time.  The reason I say it was odd was because the coconut flavor was so strong.  I guess I just wasn't prepared for that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  If you can find it in a store or choose to shop online, I would say BUY IT.  If you aren't a fan of coconut, you should stay away, but if you like coconut or are ambivalent toward it, you are probably going to enjoy this bar.  If the coconut puts you off though, don't say that I didn't warn you!

BUY IT!!
