Review: Good Greens Plus Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar

One of the benefits of this blog is that I sometimes get contacted by public relations representatives of companies trying to establish a positive online presence for their brand.  Sometimes this is in response to a positive review and other times, it is to rebut a negative review.  Only once have I been contacted to review a product that I have never heard of before and that's what happened when Good Greens contacted me and asked me to review their well regarded products.  Being that I'm willing to try just about anything, I agreed to give some of their products a shot and the company sent me four bars to try out and I'll start out with the Chocolate Peanut Butter bar.  This one weighs in 1.76 ounces and is made up of 195 calories and ten grams of protein.  It's all natural and raw, along with being gluten free and vegan, so it's got a lot going on.  Before I get to the review, I just want to point out that there will be a giveaway at the end of this post, so you'll want to keep reading to the end!

Good Greens bars are based on a proprietary blend of superfood powders called Z-52 that all its bars are based on.  The blend includes such superfoods as carrots, blueberries, broccoli, parsley, alfalfa, spinach, pomegranate, ginger, etc.  You can click the Z-52 link if you want to know more, but I'll spare you from listing all the ingredients.  Cliff's notes version is that there's a lot of them.  The bar itself has a chocolate coating exterior with an interior that looks like a chocolate brownie.  I've got to admit, I expected it to have a peanut butter like interior and be a tan color like peanut butter, but as you can see, that is not the case.  The brownie-like interior then has a a few chocolate chips and rice crisp mixed in for crunch, but they are sporadic.

In terms of taste, this tastes almost like a soft and chewy brownie with peanut butter mixed in that is dipped in chocolate and it is quite a good flavor.  I guess based on the external appearance, I was expecting the interior to have more of a chocolate flavoring but it was definitely peanut butter with a hint of chocolate.  I expected the opposite.  That's not a bad thing, but just an observation that I made as I was chewing through this.  The chips and crisp did add a minimal crunch, when you encountered them, but they really didn't influence the bar all that much.  It was mostly just a soft and chewy bar and I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Being that I wrote that this is almost like a chocolate covered brownie with peanut butter flavoring and nearly everyone likes brownies and peanut butter (including me), I have to give this a BUY IT rating.  I'm glad Good Greens contacted me because had they not, I would have never known about this bar and now I'm glad that I do.  I just wish it was available in more stores instead of online and in specialty stores, because this is good stuff.  I'm definitely looking forward to trying the other flavors that they sent me now.

BUY IT!!
And now to maybe the only reason that you read this far...I promised a giveaway, so here are the details:  Good Greens sent me a sample of four different flavors of bars and sent me two bars of each flavor.  Since I've got countless bars to review on my own, I'm only going to hang on to one of each flavor and then give the remaining four away to one lucky commenter (United States residents eligible only).  The results of the contest are as follows:  leave a comment with your guess at the year of my birth prior to Friday at 12:00 p.m. and then I will reward the bars to the first person that guesses correctly and leaves their e-mail address.  If no one guesses correctly, I'll give it to the person who is the closest.  I'll give you one hint:  it is after the year that Richard Nixon resigned.

I'll contact the winner via the comments section and via e-mail, so if you entered the contest, you'll want to check back after Friday to see if you won.  If you did win, I'll let you know what to do then.  Good luck!

  1. You look pretty young in your Twitter photo (even if half you face is covered by a burger) so I'm gonna go with 1982
