Review: fullbar Cranberry Almond Bar with a FREE GIVEAWAY!!

**KEEP READING FOR AN EXTREMELY GRACIOUS FREE GIVEAWAY CONTEST AT THE END OF THIS POST!!**

I've done some fullbar reviews on this site and one of those reviews (a negative one) drew the attention of fullbar itself and they contacted me to let me know that they had changed the recipe for their bars and were curious to know whether I would be interested in trying their new bars that use Slendesta in the mix.  I replied back and said I would be interested, so they graciously sent me quite a few bars to try out (you'll be seeing those reviews in the future).  In case you were unaware, like me, Slendesta is an all natural hunger block chemical that is supposed to help make you feel full.  Like I've said here before, being a scientist is not something I do in my spare time, so I'll take their word for it.  As for the Cranberry Almond bar itself, it comes in at 1.59 ounces and contains 150 calories and five grams of protein.

Tearing open the packaging on this, the use of Slendesta certainly didn't change the standard appearance of one of these bars, although I will admit that if you look closely enough, there is a lot going on here.  In the puffed wheat cereal mix, there are almonds, cranberries, walnuts, cashews, pecans and hazelnuts.  Whew, that's a lot and it's all held together by a mix of honey, which makes the bar quite sticky to the touch, that has cinnamon included.  If they want to win an award for most ingredients in what should be a fairly simple bar, fullbar takes the prize here.  That mix sits on top of a layer what I'll call vanilla "icing" and is then topped by a designer-like swirl of even more vanilla icing, although it is very thin.  With all that's going on in this bar, I'm almost afraid to eat it because it seems like I'd be eating someone's art project.  Still, I'm the destructive type, so I'll happily dig in.

As I bit into this, it was just like any of the other fullbars that I've reviewed in that the puffed wheat cereal mix that makes up the majority of the bar was airy, soft and had little-to-no crunch.  One thing it did have though was a definite strong cinnamon flavor and as a professed lover of cinnamon, I very much liked that.  Also a big part of the flavor of the bar was the vanilla icing on the top and bottom.  It was sweet and cooling and did a good job providing a nice counterbalance to the heat of the cinnamon.  The two things that did not succeed in this bar were the namesakes as the both the cranberries and almonds had minimal flavor and did not really do much for the bar at all.  The nuts added very minimal crunch and the cranberries themselves got cancelled out by the flavor of the icing.  Still, even without the cranberry taste, this bar was very pleasing and I enjoyed it.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Despite the fact that I said that the two primary flavors did not deliver, this was still a good tasting bar (I'm not just saying that because it was free) and I would definitely say BUY IT.  If you like cinnamon and like a cooling vanilla icing, then this bar is right up your alley.  I don't know whether Slendesta was a factor here, but this was definitely a bar worth eating.

BUY IT!!

  1. I would love to try the Cranberry Almond flavor. I think the sweet tang and the crunch of the almonds would pair well together. I always wondered about these bars and how good they would be. I cant find them at my local grocery store!

  2. I'm admittedly curious about the gum. I don't think I've ever heard of a diet product in gum form...but then again, I don't exactly obsessively follow the exciting world of diet foods.

  3. I would like to try the gum. I chew gum throughout the day for fresh breath/clean teeth so a gum help me feel full as well sounds perfect.

  6. I have a weakness for any chocolate/caramel combo, so I'd definitely try that bar. As an avid gum-chewer, I'm curious about the gum. Chewing any gum generally helps in suppressing my appetite, but perhaps chewing fullbar's gum will have longer-lasting effects.

  7. Looks like my earlier attempt at a comment didn't go through. But I'd love to get the Peanut Butter Bars. I need some solid on the go, doesn't taste like crap nutrition for work. Great stuff IE!

[It's not letting me use an email address, but you know I read daily so just let me know if I win :)]

  8. I am looking forward to the rest of the reviews for this brand. I was disappointed the first (and last) time I tried one of their bars while running trough an airport. The bar just did not get the taste points I was looking for.

But I have not tried the Cranberry Almond bar, it sounds tasty. I'm also interested in the gummies. If I cound a gummy that could help me lose weight, I'd be in heaven.
