In the past, I've spent three different reviews on Dannon's Light & Fit yogurt line (Vanilla, Strawberry, Blueberry). All of those reviews have revolved around their 32 ounce containers and not necessarily their smaller six ounce containers. Without further delay, it's time to switch it up and review one of those six ounce flavors, Strawberry Cheesecake! I picked this one up for $0.50 from Marsh and each container contains 80 calories of zero fat yogurt. Since it's 80 calories and zero fat, it's a virtual diet freebie!
As you can see, this one basically just looks like strawberry yogurt. It's got a pinkish hue and has small bits of strawberry spread noticeably throughout the container. I guess I can't say I'm all that surprised, but I would have liked to see something like a graham cracker piece or something like that in a yogurt that bills itself with cheesecake in the flavor name. Oh well, I guess Dannon's going to take the artificial flavoring route on that one (duh, it's on the packaging!).
Well, if they did take the artificial flavoring route, they didn't do it very well because this yogurt cup tastes like strawberry yogurt with a very, very faint cheesecake-like aftertaste. In fact, I would say that this one was 98% strawberry and 2% something else. And when I say something else, I can't really pinpoint it as cheesecake, but I can say that it tastes different from strawberry. For such a delectable treat like cheesecake, it was sad that Dannon made a miserable attempt at emulating it.
Buy It or Fly By It? If you are buying this for the cheesecake component, FLY BY IT. If you don't really care about the cheesecake component and want strawberry yogurt, well, this is your choice. Although, in that instance, wouldn't you just buy the strawberry yogurt. I don't know why, but it really drives me nuts when products produce some sort of flavoring in their name and then that flavoring is nearly entirely absent. This is one of those products.
