Review: Weight Watchers Smart Ones Spicy Szechuan Style Vegetables & Chicken

Google Analytics is a handy tool.  I've already run posts based on data I've seen on there and this post is another one because apparently people like to search for reviews on Weight Watchers Smart Ones products.  Seems odd to me, but hey, I'm looking for page views, so that leads me to pander to the masses and try out this Spicy Szechuan Style Vegetables & Chicken microwave meal.  Yes, this is a microwave meal...there are no directions on how to make this anywhere else.  Not that I need or want those directions, but I do find the lack of options to be amusing.  Anyway, I picked this one up at Marsh on sale for $1.99 and the meal clocks in at a semi-respectable 9.0 ounces.  It contains 240 calories and if you are into the Weight Watchers Points Plus scale type of thing, it is a six point meal on the scale.

The box pretty much tells you everything you need to know about this meal in how it looks and what is in it.  There are long lo mein noodles that are mixed with the chicken chunks and the vegetables.  The vegetables consists of carrots, celery, peppers and zucchini.  The whole combination is then drenched/sits in a soy sauce concoction bringing in the Szechuan flavoring.  Since this is a 9.0 ounce meal, there is a pretty fair amount of food in here, so this would be perfect for a small lunch or dinner (or maybe not small at all if you are a light eater).

In terms of taste, I've got to say that this is not bad.  The overwhelming flavor is the soy/Szechuan sauce that permeates the entire meal and takes over pretty much everything.  It has a nice spice too it and I'd even classify that spice as "zing."  If you don't like heat though, you might not like that "zing" though.  A problem with this is that there is too much sauce and because of that, the taste of it overtakes everything else and makes it seem like you are eating forkfuls of sauce flavored mush.  You can't really distinguish the veggies or the noodles separately as everything seems to have the same taste.  It's not a bad taste, but if you are expecting something else, you are going to get disappointed.  The chicken, while tasting of Szechuan/soy is soft and tender and considering this is a microwave meal, that was a pleasant surprise.

Buy It or Fly By It?  I can't give this a ringing endorsement, but I can say that it was a fairly decent meal, so I've got to give it a BUY IT rating.  Nothing beats real Chinese food obviously, but for a microwave treat, this doesn't do such a bad job.  It is filling and will do the trick if you are ever in a time pinch or just don't feel like cooking or eating anything extravagant.

BUY IT!!
