Review: LUNA White Chocolate Macadamia Nutrition Bar

I've covered before how I don't think I look like a woman and was duped/bullied into buying these LUNA bars that are specifically made for women, but since I was duped, I might as well finish reviewing my purchases and that leads me to the White Chocolate Macadamia Nutrition bar produced by LUNA (a subsidiary of CLIF, so this fits right in with the theme of the week).  This one is 70% organic and weighs in at 1.69 ounces with 190 calories and nine grams of protein.  I picked it up on Kroger (from the bully) for $1.00.

As you can see in the excellent visual, this one starts with a white chocolate base layer topped with a rice crisp mix that is interspersed with oats and the aforementioned macadamia nuts which are small and spread sporadically throughout.  On top of that mix are squiggles of more white chocolate to make the bar look more decorative and appealing.  I suppose that's the female touch and why this bar is aimed toward women, but whatever.

So, how did it taste?  Well, I can say that it wasn't bad.  It certainly wasn't outstanding either.  The white chocolate was noticeable and semi-sweet, but not at all a big flavor profile.  The main flavor profile in this bar was the rice crisp and I don't think that was the intention.  When the name of your bar includes white chocolate and macadamia, you'd expect those to be the main feature ingredients.  I've already covered the relative weakness of the white chocolate flavor and that applies to the macadamia nuts too.  In fact, I couldn't even taste the macadamia nuts in my first few bites and had to focus my powerful brain on the next few bites in order to find the taste.  I know macadamia nuts are not a strong flavored nut, but they should at least be a noticeable taste.  Also, since macadamia nuts are softer than most nuts, they did not add the requisite crunch that you'd expect from a bar with nuts in it and the crunch in here was provided by the rice crisp more than anything.

Buy It or Fly By It?  This is an easy one...FLY BY IT.  Not because the taste was overwhelmingly bad, but because it was overwhelmingly blah.  If you really want a white chocolate and macadamia mix, stick with the CLIF CRUNCH White Chocolate Macadamia nut bar that I've reviewed here previously and you'll find a winner because you definitely aren't finding one in this LUNA bar.  In fact, all you are finding here is a participation trophy because all this bar really does is exist and that's it.

FLY BY IT!!
