Review: EAS Myoplex Chocolate Peanut Butter Nutrition Bar

The adventures in ridiculous protein bars continue!  I'm sure you are as fired up to see this as I was when I saw EAS Myoplex Chocolate Peanut Butter Nutrition Bar on sale at Meijer for $1.50 for the bar (normally $2.49, I believe).  Clocking in at 2.65 ounces with 290 calories and 25 grams of protein, this is quite a dense bar.  In fact, EAS recommends that you could use this as a meal replacement bar if you are in a pinch because of its size.  I was using it as a post workout recovery tool though.  Gotta get those muscles recovered!

Checking this one out, I could clearly see that the label does not lie.  I saw chocolate and I saw peanut butter (or at least a peanut butter mix).  The chocolate wasn't solid or hard, but it was more like a "nougat" like you'd see in a Snickers bar or Three Musketeers candy bar.  The peanut butter was not creamy or crunchy, it was just there.  I can't really describe it other than this didn't seem like real peanut butter, but instead seemed like some peanut butter concoction that a chemist created in a lab.  The outside of the bar was covered in a chocolate that was definitely not creamy or gooey by any stretch of the imagination.  In fact, when I broke the bar in half, the chocolate actually cracked and started flaking down onto my counter top.  Weird.

The taste of this was equally as weird as the composition of this one.  Remember when I compared the chocolate base layer to a nougat-type consistency?  Well, that's what it tasted like too.  Honestly, it felt just like a Three Musketeers bar in my mouth, except the nougat in Three Musketeers has a definitely chocolatey taste.  This one had nothing like that.  It had the nougat consistency, but no real taste.  This was the same thing with the peanut butter.  Honestly, if someone had me eat this bar blindfolded, I'd have no idea there was peanut butter in this one because I could not detect its taste AT ALL.  What a waste.  The outer chocolate was fine, I guess, but it didn't really have any strong chocolate flavor either.  It was just there.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Unless you want to be bored out of your mind, definitely FLY BY IT.  The biggest compliment I can give this bar is that it has a lot of protein and can help you after a workout.  Other than that, there is not a single positive I can think of.  It tastes like nothing, is boring and a waste of time.  The only feasible situation I could think of for buying this one is if you are desperate for a big protein supplement after a workout and if that is the case, there are plenty of other bars out there that can give you the same amount (or more) in protein that actually taste good.

FLY BY IT!!
