Review: Quaker Popped Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper Rice Snacks

Editor's Note:  While the product has stayed the same, Quaker now markets these under a different named and they are now called "Quaker Popped Rice Snacks." The review below applies the same.

Another Quaker Quakes review!  Yahoo!  This Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper flavor was purchased at Meijer on sale for $1.00 (I had a shopping car full of all these different Quakes when I made them as part of a bulk purchase of all their flavors one day).  These are 130 calories per serving (about three per bag), so they fall in the upper end of the calorie count chart in comparison to the other Quakes.

Using my brilliant shorthand scale, these fall into the powdery variety of Quakes.  They are lightweight, airy and have a dusting of both sea salt and cracked black pepper on the outside, as you can see in the picture above.  The amounts of salt and pepper are not overwhelming, but it is there.

In terms of taste, this is exactly what it looks like...a mini-rice cake with salt and pepper sprinkled on top.  Since it is sea salt and cracked black pepper, it has a little more bit than the salt and pepper that you'd have on your kitchen table, but outside of that, there are no real surprises in these Quakes.  As always, the strength of flavor depends on how much dusting is on the Quake.

Buy It or Fly By It?  FLY BY IT.  There's nothing particularly memorable about these and I'm sure you can tell that by the amount of time I spent on my review.  It's not that they taste bad, it's just that they don't taste good either.  They are just there...and salty to boot.  If you do buy these for some reason, they are definitely going to dry you out.

FLY BY IT!!
