Review: Ben & Jerry's Limited Batch Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream

In honor of today being National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day, I feel it is my duty as an American to cancel the previous review I had scheduled for today and do this one instead!

First things first, I'm a Ben & Jerry's addict.  I shouldn't be an addict, I don't want to be addict, but sometimes in life you just have to admit something, accept it as fact and move on.  The fact that I'm a Ben & Jerry's addict is one of those things.  Now, you should also know that due to Culver's and their annual fall roll-out of pumpkin flavored shakes and concrete mixers, I'm also a pumpkin ice cream freak now as well.  When I saw that Ben & Jerry's was rolling out their Pumpkin Cheesecake flavor as a Limited Batch this fall (surfing the web, I see that they do this seemingly every fall too), I knew this one had my name written all over it.  It's 290 calories per serving and each pint includes four servings (I've never really been able to figure out how or why they get four servings out of this) and I picked up a pint at Walmart for $3.39.

Taking a look at this, this one has an orangeish and pinkish coloring too it.  You can also see the nutmeg and graham cracker pieces (symbolizing the crust) mixed into the blend as well.  Just looking at this, you can clearly say one thing, it does look like a frozen pumpkin flavored cheesecake stuffed into an ice cream pint, so that's a good start.

Before we start, I should point out that I am not a fan of nutmeg.  I know its an essential part of all pumpkin pies, but I find those pies that have a strong nutmeg flavoring to be inedible.  Other than in the Pumpkin Spice mixer/shake at Culver's, they tone down the nutmeg in all their other pumpkin offerings and that's why I love them.  So, seeing that this one included nutmeg was a big concern to me.  As for those concerns, well, they were unfounded because this was delicious and the nutmeg, while detectable, was not overpowering.  The creamy ice had a definitely pumpkin pie flavor and the graham cracker pieces added a beautiful crunch at the times that you were able to include this in your spoonful.  I wish there were more graham cracker pieces, but I totally understand why there weren't because if you want something to simulate a cheesecake, you want the amount of graham cracker to be proportional to what you'd get in an actual cheesecake.

Buy It or Fly By It?  Undoubtedly BUY IT, but you better do it soon before the limited batch runs out.  I know I will because as you can see in this picture, it took every fiber of strength I had to not finish off this pint in one sitting (I got halfway through before I remembered to take a picture).  Just like at Culver's, I wish pumpkin was a flavor they kept available annually, but I understand why they don't.  It stinks, but it is what it is.

BUY IT!!
By the way, I think I might the only person in the world that loved this so much.  This Pumpkin Cheesecake flavor slightly positive to lukewarm reviews elsewhere:

  1. So you found this in 2011? I have been looking everywhere it was at Walmart last year round Thanksgiving but nowhere to be found so far this year, in Chicagoland IL.

  2. @Phil N: Yep, I found it just a few weeks ago at my local Walmart. Although, when I was in Walmart this past weekend, I didn't see it, so perhaps they've already taken it off the shelves (or they just ran out).

  4. Sixteen pints? LOL, that's some serious dedication! It also sounds like something I'd do, so I'm envious that I didn't think of it first since this is nowhere to be found around me now either.

  5. I have to find this soon. I've been on the lookout for a really long time now, but it might warrant a special trip to track down. It seems to be a favorite of almost everyone who tries it.

    1. I believe this is a fall only flavor, so you may have to wait until then to find its goodness in your local store. Thanks for check out the review!

  7. You aren't the only one, man. I found a pint of this in my local grocery store just a couple of weeks ago (I guess it must have been hiding in the back). I was so excited I almost screamed. Took it home, popped that baby open and it blew my mind. Threw a small tantrum when I went back the next day for another pint and there were none left. I hope they release it again this year, because I am going to fill my roommate's freezer. She won't mind. :D

    1. It's usually a seasonal flavor, so I imagine you'll start seeing it any day now, if not already (check Walmart).

  11. It is absolutely delicious!! I first tried it about 3 Christmas ago and I was able to find it often until about February. I tried looking for it every fall season since and no luck :( I just went to walmart t last night and there was ONE pint in the freezer mixed up with other favors. I was quick to grab it and asked if they had more but no luck but at least I was able to have one. I've even go to the official Ben n jerrys website and they don't even list it as one of their favors. Wish they would make more of it year around
